FASHIONISTA’S took over the colourful streets of Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap as Joburg based designer David Tlale presented his ready-to-wear collection, titled “I am NOT Colored, I am Color”. David is known for his over the top and dramatic shows…and he sure made an entrance.Hundreds gathered outside the brightly painted eatery, Wale Rose of the largely Muslim neighborhood. After nibbling on samosas and other Cape Malay delicacies, we were seated along the streets.
David made his entrance in true diva style in a swanking silver Mercedes SLK. The show was part of a 4-day long fashion extravaganza, of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town. From July 25 until the 28th fashion lovers gathered at International Convention Centre (CTICC), for 18 shows by 26 designers from around the country.
Back to David…Pure white linen and lace dominated his collection. I loved the contrasting colour dipped-white tights and bright platforms heels. The back-drop of Bo-Kaap’s colourful houses created a lovely contrast to the all-white collection. The clothes were simply gorgeous; I could see myself getting married in some of the dresses.
Other designers that unveiled their Spring/Summer’12 collection included Abigail Betz, Leigh Schubert, Craig Port, Gavin Rajah, hip hop, Fabiani and Lalesso, among others
Leather…yes, leather is set to be THE look for the next two seasons. Don’t get it wrong though, not heavy and thick leather…I am talking skinny faux-leather pants and shorts, and dresses (like the one I wore for day 3, I love the feel and cut of the dress), my Mr. Price find 😉
Sequins, sheer materials and colour, colour, and more colour dominated the runways. I was in colour heaven; I loved it! COLOUR IS THE NEW BLACK! Say it after me. I loved Fabiani, men wearing pink and green…glorious.
This is what caught my eye…
